      There is a much easier way to do this.

      Open you image. Create a new layer and then create a rounded rectangle on that layer. Use the selection tool that looks like a magic wand and click anywhere on the rounded rectangle. Right click on the selection and click "Select Inverse". Select the original image layer and hit delete.
